Making Conversation:

Small Change:

Reflection:
Active reading transformed the way I engaged in topics I read about. There were three key ways I did so. Annotating, questioning, and making a connection to another similar topic or event in the world. The first active reading is on a small segment of Kwame Anthony Appiah’s “Making Conversation”. In this reading I questioned what it is like to be human, to be an individual. I connected my question to the modern process of society, how we all learn much faster than me did hundreds of years ago. My approach towards the reading allows me to deepen my comprehension and create more critical thinking. The second active reading is on Malcom Gladwell’s “Small Change”. In this reading I discussed the use of modern social media and how it impacts the world, specifically protests. I questioned how some protests were able to occur without the use of social media and if it was a better option to create larger protests. This way of thinking encouraged me to engage with the material more instead of just simply skimming over or reading it. Without active reading I would not be able to fully understand and retain the material as well as enjoy reading it.
